Here’s a little post holiday cheer, plucked from NPR’s preholiday coverage: great american writers and their cocktails. usually, I give NPRa great deal of credit for fact-checking and editorial cred, but i have to take issue with Hemingway being linked to the mojito though, since he was a well-known diabetic and couldn’t drink anything with simple syrup (pure sugar and water) in it. The more appropriate drink to pair Papa with is the variant of the daiquiri that bears his name, which was made with grapefruit juice and a splash of maraschino liqueur. One of my favorite old haunts in Jensen Beach, Florida, Conchy Joes’s, mixes up a killer Hemingway in a tin cup.
