Jay's "He Said, She Said Journalism" keeps growing

some years ago, i was in the presence of a pricey writing coach who was telling a room of venerable washington correspondents, who were trying not show their contempt for him to obviously, that the key to writing a story was finding the conflict. as he went on and on, when a break finally appeared i observed that manufacturing conflict in the guise of creating balance was misleading and misinforming, and cited global warming as an example. i was instantly met with blantant contempt from both the writing coach and the washington journalists, who suddenly bonded with the coach and whispered quietly that i was just the “computer guy” and not to mind me.

i recall this memory fondly now as i have been watching this thread over at jay rosen’s blog for the past couple of weeks:

PressThink: He Said, She Said Journalism: Lame Formula in the Land of the Active User.

i’m glad i’m not alone anymore.
