The Q&A session at the ONA10 luncheon with NPR’s Vivian Schiller and AOL’s Tim Armstrong wrapped up before I got to ask my question, so I pose it here for your consideration, comments and tweeting pleasure. So our Journalism Division faculty met today on creating new guidelines about merit and tenure. And, always the troublemaker, I dropped the bomb on the discussion. Tenure, as practiced and preached doesn’t make sense to me. I tweeted about it, and got a few questions (and a lot of props) so here’s the full story and my thoughts: I said something to the effect that under our old guidelines or our new proposed guidelines or any guidelines pretty much anywhere, if I created the next facebook, I would not be granted tenure.
